Project overview

Road safety represents a high important social issue. Therefore the objective of halving of road accident fatalities pointed out by European Commission initial in 2001 has been restated in the White Paper in 2011.

The project "Research on estimation and enhancement of intrinsic safety performances for urban traffic networks" - SAFENET - includes research on road safety specific to urban area and particularized to Metropolitan Bucharest area.

The main objective of the project is the enhancement of the urban traffic road safety throughout initiating of measures for road accident risk diminishing in urban areas identified as zones with low safety performances.

In order to accomplish this aim fundamental and experimental research are performed for developing of conceptual models and useful tools in safety performances enhancement. The research results will be used in analysis of the typology of network elements with low safety performances and for identifying of constructive and traffic regulation solutions meant to lead to road safety improvement.

The project SAFENET is funded by Partnership Programme, Domain 7. Materials, processes and products, PCCA Type 2, Project code PN-II-PT-PCCA-2011-3.2-1439, Contract 193/2012.
